The purpose of homework is to reinforce the learning that has happened during the day of teaching. The homework will not only enrich the previously taught concepts, but also encourage good study habits. Saint Patrick School Students are expected to turn in completed homework on the day it is due.
As a rule of thumb students should spend at least the following amount of time on homework each evening:
Kindergarten and 1st grades: 10-15 minutes
2nd grade: 15-20 minutes
3rd grade: 30-45 minutes
4th grade: 45-60 minutes
5th grade: 60-75 minutes
6th, 7th, and 8th grades: 60-90 minutes
If a student does not have written homework, he or she should be encouraged to use the time for reading activities.
We ask the cooperation of the parents to ensure students are given adequate time and a conducive environment to complete their homework.
Students are expected to note the homework that is assigned before they leave school. They should look over the material and if they find that they do not understand it, they need to go to the teacher BEFORE they leave school that day.
Students in 5th-8th Grade are required to use the assignment notebook that is distributed to them in their homeroom. Parents are billed $5 for the Assignment Notebook.
Current homework for the week is posted on the web-based grade program (Snapgrades.net) every Monday (or 1st working day of the week) by 2:00 pm.
Assignment Notebooks
As our students grow, we are trying to teach them how to be organized and how to have control of their own work and daily activities: we want them to be RESPONSIBLE for themselves. The use of assignment book is a way to help them.
Students are expected to keep a daily record of assignments in the assignment notebook. Students in 5th through 8th grade will be required:
To purchase a Saint Patrick Assignment book
To bring this assignment book everyday to school
To take this assignment book to every class during the day (except to PE)
To take note of all work, homework, projects, activities happening at the school
The lack of use of the assignment book will become a minor offense and will follow Saint Patrick School Discipline Code.
The inconsistent use of the assignment book will become a serious offense and will follow Saint Patrick School Discipline Code.
