Sing to the Lord a new song, Sing to the Lord all the earth!
– Psalm 96:1

“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art.”  In accord with these words of Cardinal Arinze from the Second Vatican Council, we recognize that the primary role of music is to promote a more intense and genuine participation in the divine liturgy. Our primary goal then, is to uphold a standard of music which supports the beauty, dignity and reverence of the sacred act which it supports.  It is indeed, the vision of the parish to include music of many various styles into many more aspects of parish life.

St Patrick Parish offers a variety of choirs including the Schola Cantorum,  Adult choir, St. Patrick’s  Bilingual Youth Choir, and St. Patrick School Choir as well as many small musical ensembles in both Spanish and English.

St. Patrick Parish Choir

Also known as the  Schola Cantorum, this choir sings for the 11:00 Mass every Sunday.  Auditions are not required although the ability to read music is necessary.  This year the Parish Choir performed  a Christmas Cantata before Christmas Eve Mass including works by Bach, Praetorius and Carols from the Brittish Isles  as well as some Gregorian Chant.  We are currently looking for organists, pianists, trumpet or string players interested in joining.  Rehearsals are every Wednesday at 7pm in the church.

St Patrick Youth BiLingual Choir

The Youth Choir sings a variety of styles of music including Praise and Worship, Spanish Contemporary and  Spanish and English traditional hymns.  The main body of the mass is sung in a bilingual mass setting easily accessible to the whole congregation.  The Bilingual Choir also sings for special masses and feast days throughout the church year.  This group is primarily composed of High School and College students, though all are welcome!

Coro Malaji

This Spanish choir is composed primarily of young adults and teens, and plays a variety of Spanish Traditional hymns as well as Praise and Worship songs.  This group also plays for the prayer group meetings on Monday and Friday evenings in the church.

St Patrick Adult Choir

The longest running choir in the parish, the adult choir sings for the 7:30 am Mass on Sunday mornings and rehearsals are held at 4:00 on Tuesdays in the church.

“When man comes into contact with God, mere speech is not enough.  Areas of his existence are awakened  that spontaneously turn into song.” Pope Benedict XVI

All are welcome and encouraged to join these parish choirs, please contact our music director Nina Powers for more information at npowers@dioceseofspokane.org, fill out the following form or call the parish office.
