Advisory Bodies

“Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may eventually become wise.  Many are the plans of the human heart, but it is the decision of the LORD that endures.” — Proverbs 19:20-21

“The Church wishes to serve this single end: that each person may be able to find Christ, in order that Christ may walk with each person the path of life, with the power of the truth about man and the world that is contained in the mystery of the Incarnation and the Redemption and with the power of the love that is radiated by that truth.” — Blessed John Paul II, The Redeemer of Man, 13

God has entrusted a mission to the Church, and each member of the Church has a particular share in that mission. In a word, the mission of the Church is evangelization. This is true for the Church community as such, and also for each individual Catholic.

The Pastor is responsible to discern and implement the particular content of the parish mission, in full communion with the diocesan bishop and the other pastors.  He is also responsible to help his parishioners discern and exercise their personal vocations, the particular part in which God wants them to fulfill their mission in the world. This requires discernment to know what God wills, and how that will can best be accomplished.

Councils

To help fulfill these tasks, the pastor relies upon the wisdom and guidance of members of the parish community who serve as trusted advisers. There are two primary advisory bodies in St. Patrick Parish: the Pastoral Council and the Finance Council. The Pastoral Council helps the Pastor discern the mission of the parish (what is to be done), while the Finance Council helps ensure the proper stewardship, both efficient and transparent, of the material resources of the parish to accomplish that mission (how it is to be done).

The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) has seven standing subcommittees, called “Commissions”, each of which is responsible for a section of the Into the Deep! pastoral plan.  Each Commission is chaired by a Pastoral Council member, and meets monthly from August through June on the second Tuesday from 6:30-8:30pm in the South Rooms of the gym.

Section 3.02  The specific purposes of the PPC are: (a) Assist the Pastor to discern a long-range strategic plan for the Parish; (b) Propose concrete initiatives and policies which assist the Parish to accomplish the long-range mission; (c) Review and recommend the parish budget upon the advice of the Parish Finance Council; (d) Help elicit and coordinate the participation of individuals, groups and committees within the Parish.  (Parish Pastoral Council Charter)

Section 2.03 The PFC is to help the Pastor in the acts of ordinary administration including: (a) To assist in the preparation of the annual Parish budget; (b) To review the budget and financial condition of the parish on a regular basis; (c) To review and approve the Annual Financial Report of the Parish; (d) To assist the Pastor in implementing appropriate fiscal policies and procedures; (e) To assist the Pastor in the ordinary administration of the Parish.
